2 faces for PDA in the future?
The PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) is now ready to converge with the mobile phone following a trend to which many producers are strongly interested. Many firms clearly declared to move their resouces to follow this evolution.The only thing to verify is to verify if the winner will be an evoluted smartphone or a different type of Pda with an extended connettivity to have it freely usable anywhere and no longer as 'Computer assistant'. This operation will be quite easy for the multimedial section but will meet some difficulties with the 'Office' programs and any other service that may be limited by the reduced dimensions of the mobile phone that will become less efficient. Anyway it is already clear the wish of the user to get a real mini PC (and many of them already consider so the new Pdas even if this is wrong) This may resume the idea of the HPC model (already launched, without a big result, at the time of the first palm size unit running WinCE), running a full O.S. I dedicated this page to follow the evolution of this double trend and to monitor the devices that can meet the above idea. Obviously some of them will not succeed while some others will match easily with others sections of the market instead of to be a real Pda evolution, but surely you will get some of them, within few years, on your desk or, why not, into your pockets (when your pockets will be empty after buying the device if prices remain unchanged) HPC, Ultra Portable PC, MiniTablet PC, SubNotebook Cathena Note : Questo è l'oggetto meno innovativo del gruppo se non si considera il fattore forma Si tratta infatti di un dispositivo che usa WinCE con le caratteristiche tipiche del palmare in un contenitore dalla forma di un notebook. Se vogliamo guardare indietro è una sorta di remake dell' HP820 che, uscito troppo presto, non ha avuto molta fortuna come molti HPC. Il prezzo è contenuto ma non competitivo visto i costi degli attuali notebook di fascia bassa. Si tatta di un vero miniPC e quindi di una vera possibile evoluzione dei Pdas attualmente conosciuti. L'oggetto presenta alcune soluzioni mutuate dai palmari (tastiera a scomparsa) ed ha dimensioni abbastanza contenute e un buona dotazione di porte disponibili. Il peso non è proprio dei più leggeri come il costo. Non gli mancano comunque le caratteristiche per inserirsi sul mercato anche se dubito sia quello consumer. Certamente il costo elevato non ne ha facilitato la diffusione come Sony si attendeva. Tuttavia non sono esclusi seguiti da parte di Sony con dispositivi della stessa serie e tipologia. Voci suggerivano che potesse essere lanciato da Dell o forse HP ma niente al momento sembra confermare queste ipotesi. Si tratta però di un dispositivo le cui caratteristiche e dimensioni possono soddisfare coloro che vogliono da un Pda prestazioni che non potrà mai fornire con una portabilità non tascabile ma certamente agevole. Le varie specifiche dimostrano una flessibilità tale da soddisfare molte esigenze. Peccato il prezzo alto anche considerando tutto. E' poco più grande di un HP h2210 e dispone di una tastiera ed anche di un HD da 4Gb e inoltre (opzionale) di connetività WiFi. Ha in dotazione un S.O. Linux e la possibilità di essere usato come Hard disk esterno. (tipo Palm T5) Forse, come altri Sharp non arriverà mai in Europa ma per il prezzo vale la pena di importarlo personalmente. Il fattore forma, rimasto quello della primitiva versione lo rendono meno elegante e forse non del tutto agevolmente utilizzabile e portatile. Sulla base di una videata molto simile a Windows offre una serie di servizi particolarmente indirizzati alla connettività su Internet. E' ancora problematico il lato autonomia.
