How to : Perform an Hard Reset

With the evolution of the CE devices it has changed also the way to perform an Hard Reset of your unit. Usually the user hopes to not need to hard reset his unit (loosing all stored data/programs) and when this become necessary, he does non remember how to operate.

The first CE devices, that used removable main battery and backup battery, usually required to remove both types of battery to fully reset the unit to the default settings. You had also to remove and reinstall power sources in the correct order to avoid to discharge the backup battery.(Remove: 1st Backup battery - 2nd Main Battery - Reinstall: 1st Main Battery - 2nd Backup Battery)

With the coming of new units with fixed (but also replaceble) battery the way to perform an Hard Reset changed. On the oldest devices you can find a switch or slider command to activate to fully reset the device. On the more modern pdas the hard reset usually requires to press 2 or more buttons at the same time to get the result.

The operating ways to execute an hard reset are here quoted along with a list of the pda that use the relative way to reinstate the pda at the original default setting.
