The MAGICIAN'S cornerTo start
When i bought this Pda phone, in order to replace my old mobile phone without needing to use two separate
units, I considered the possibility to write a little review of this device.
Later, thinking about the matter, i considered also that my review could be equal to many others already
available in the web, so to do something i preferred to start this 'container' page where i hope you could find
news, information,ideas, links etc. useful to any user of this phone edition created by HTC.
A Name, many surnames and a guarantee.
The project name remember the mysteries switching the client curiosity. What there is of Magic in this
HTC Magician ? Well may be only the fact to be the first to represent really the convergence Pda/Mobilephone
that is considered the pdas' trend for the future.
HTC created many valid models for various producers showing a good assembling and construction level
that is a guarantee. That the models of Htc are really good it is easy to understand if we consider how many
providers and brands are distributing pdas realized by this firm even if under several names:
QTek S100 I-Mate JAM T-Mobile MDA Compact
O2 XDA Mini Dopod 818 Orange SPV M500
Vodafone VPA compact Krome-Spy
These last 3 items (Vodafone VPA, Orange SPV & Krome Spy) are model of Magician but they show some
differences in the construction of the case, that you can better see HERE for the first two model.
If you consider one of the above mentioned model better than the standard you must remenber also that Orange
is availavle in Netherland and UK only while for the Krome-Spy you can find it in Australia only.
To consider the correct definitions
When the Magician project has been shown for the first time by an Italian site (PocketPC Italia), if i remember
well it was clear that the relative device was something of really different that needed a fully new definition.
There were already the Phone Edition and also the Smartphone.
The first type represented the way of the Pda producers to try to enter into the mobile communication market
while the smartphones represented instead the devices born to increase the mobile phone available services
as you can clearly see looking at several models of various brands (Sony Ericsson, Nokia etc).
The Magician, for the first time, was not identified by only one of these basic definitions containing the
characteristics of both the types.
It was really a Phone Edition but it did not respect the coded dimensions of the common Pdas still including at the
same time a phone section, notwhitstanding the small dimensions, and all this without needing the usual antenna
like the modern mobile phones.
At the same time it has the measures of a simple smartphone and, if you see better, its dimensions are near to
the one of some mobile phones also, (the difference may be about 1 cm or few mm).
The above, obviously does not apply to the unit's weigh where the mobile phone wins.

Design,.....
The design of this device can cause many discussions. I can say that its design is linear, simple and functional but
i am sure that this kind of object is the one that you love immediately or you will never love. (There is nothing else
to say about this point)
Form's factor and........... some doubt also
The form factor was due the choice of HTC, as previously mentioned, that allows to consider the
Magician really innovative. (Perhaps it has not been the first to introduce the pda display of only
2.8' but with the usual resolution of 240x320 and 65000 colors but surely this device has been
commercialized as first, before of others units as Motorola (Mpx) never released and the Asus (P505)
that after about an years has not reached the market).
As often happens the innovative unit has not been totally appreciated because not all the Pda user
accepted easily a screen reduced to less than usual 3.5' that became a standard for the palm sized pdas.
About this matter we may do some considerations.
2.8' Magician 3.5' Palmsize Smatphone
If we consider the above samples it is easy to understand that an user of a standard palm sized pda,
can no appreciate a so reduced screen's dimension and so to continue to use the big brother of the
Magician (Blue Angel for example even if more expensive).
On the contrary an user of a cellular phone/smartphone/cellular that is looking for an alternative
will be not so sensible to the screen dimensions while will be much impressed by the weight (or price).
See this unit quickly.
The Magician is like a solid barrel with few command buttons at the base of the screen and rounded corners.
Notwithstanding the simple form it is very easy to handle this Pda/phone.
On the face of the unit the only one thing, in addition to the above mentioned buttons, is a control led
mixed with the phone speaker. The mentioned led changes its color showing the state of some functions of
the device. See below some sample:

On the pda face at the bottom of the screen there are the main and only basic commands of the device
represented by to double buttons and by a four direction touch pad with confirmation button.

The main set of command button, with rear light, is basically dedicated to the phone controls even if
its function may chance to control the photo camera, for example.
It is easy to find the slot SDio/MMC (max extension of memory 2Gb) that, as usual, is located on top of
the device near the carrying lace .
On the other side (at the bottom) we find the USB connection for the power/Synchronization near to the
earphone and to soft reset button .On the rear you can see the lens of the photocam with, at side, a little
mirror . Above these elements there is a little plastic cover that hides an external antenna plug.
But there are also some hidden things
There are hidden things outside and inside. The simple black side that run around the device separating
the two metallic shells (face and rear) appears as created to give better grip to handle the device but
also to hide many of the commands that you can find on the unit's sides where , the only visible command
button is the power on/off (marked with a red icon).
The IRDA SIR door a 115Kb, and in some way the metallic stylus are no so visible at first sight being
well stored into the black top and right side of the unit, and so happens also for the other commands
that you can find on the left side and at the bottom.

Obviously inside the device there are the really hidden items.
The brain of the pda is one Cpu Intel PXA272 at 416Mhz. This is not the top of the megahertz play but,
do not forget that this is a Pocket Phone with multiple connectionGSM 900/1800/1900 MHz, and a speed
that is equally valid for the device's performances as well the battery's autonomy, is the better solution.
Connectivity Bluetooth - Vers.1.2 working up to about 40m. The drivers are the ones marked Windows
(no Widcomm) and they support the following profiles:
- Generic Access Profile - Serial Port Profile - Headset Profile - Object Push Profile - DUN Profile - File Transfer Profile - Hands-free Profile - Generic Object Exchange Profile
The most important point is the quantity of available memory.
The user get, using this device, 64Mb of Ram and 64Mb of Rom.
The memory's dimension caused many discussions. Well, i think that the total quantity of memory is not surely
at the top but is anyway the same quantity that was a required standard few months ago.
It is true that the pda is powered by an O.S. (WM2003 S.E. P.E.) that requires and uses on starting a large
quantity of Ram, so reducing the memory commonly available to the user.
Well if the user needs a lot of memory in this device it is possible to expand it up to double the available
quantity even if this operation is quite expensive (an obviously loosing the original guarantee)

Please take also note that Qtek released their version QTek S110 that is the usual model already upgaded
to a 128Mb memory (you can find further information HERE )
I can say (and we will see this later) that, as the pda has a slot for memory extension type MMC/SD it is
possible to use it to partially solve the problem that many users consider an hardware limitation.

This is one of the first things that a new user tests while he is playing with his new toy (i.e. pda :).
The battery of 1200 mAh has not a top capacity but the speed of the Cpu (as above said) and the
reduced screen appear to help to reach a good, even if not excellent, autonomy that allows the use
like a common mobile phone.
We can say that if you do not use phone heavy but you use it as a normal user you may get up to 2
days of autonomy before needing to recharge the unit On the contrary, i you are an intensive
phone user and, at the same time you often use the unit to see a film, or to stay connected by BT
it will be better to recharge the device every night.
You can recharge the battery through the miniUSB door using the A.C. charger or through a cable to
connect to an USB door usually used to connect the pda to the desk PC.
It is better to follow the suggestion to execute a long time charge the first time as quoted in the
attached instructions. I know that here are different opinions about this matter but anyway this will
help to fully charge the backup battery of 25mAh that offers an autonomy extension of about 20
minutes when the main battery go totally down.
As soon as you finished to charge the unit, in addition to the touch screen balance to execute by the stylus,
your device will start a lot of installations to never stop to avoid at the end to miss of some of the functions
or service that the pda offers you as shown in the instructions manual.
If you need an additional battery you can find it, along with others accessories HERE , otherwise you
can find HERE an enchanged version up to 1550 mAh.
If you can accept to modify the dimensions and the original form you can find here a battery extra large
but unfortunately extra large for dimensions also .
NOTE: the new HP hw6515 (GSM/GPRS/EDGE/GPS unit) produced by HTC for HP use the same battery of
the HTC Magician. This means that will be easyest to find the spare part battery for your unit.

Well, we can look at what can help to use better this pda phone for any kind of use.
In the box you can find also a second stylus and this is a good and useful accessory.
But, if you wish an extra stylus you can find also a compatible one including also a pen to write.

What is really missing instead is the classic cradle (object that previously was always a typical
included accessory). Personally i do not need to use a cradle, and for this particular unit i can ask you

These items are instead the things that i suggest and that i consider really indispensable:
Find a good screen protector.
This pda may be used 'on the road' using your fingers instead of the stylus.
This happens with the Virtual number pad to make a call or using the classicPhone Pad/T9 virtual to write
un SMS and in this case it is better to protect the display.

Get a Syncro/Charge cable
About the power, as previously stated, the pda comes with an A.C. charger to use with the common plug and
with a simple cable USB/MiniUSB that allows to charge the battery of your unit through an USB door.
I suggest to buy a syncro/charge retractable cable as it the easiest way to have always and anywhere what
you need to connect but , much more useful, what you need to recharge battery if you have a Desk PC near.
Find the better case but also the one you like
The case of a pda needs to protect the device, but it is also a method to personalize your unit. Here you can
see various types to choice which kind of cover you like.

There are two accessories that may be useful if you need their services.
As this device is a Phone Edition first possible item is a Bluetooth headset.
We have to consider that Bluetooth with driver Microsoft may cause problems with some models.
These are the Headsets suggested for the Qtek S100 : - Plantronics M2500 and - Motorola HS801 otherwise
Jabra BT330 Bluetooth Headset (This is declared compatible but only with the I-Mate Jam and others.
The Qtek S100 is not in the list but it is possible that, as the hardware is the same, it could work fine as well)
Motorola HS820 Bluetooth Headset is an accessory that appears to work fine with the model 9090 of Qtek
but there are no informations about its use with S100, Jam etc..
The second accessory could be an SD card WiFi if the user need this type of LAN's connection.
The best choice could be to use the SanDisk that, in addition to the WiFi connection, offers 256Mb of memory
also so that the single SD slot can be used at the same time for others uses also. See HERE the Tutorial
The only doubt that i have about this solution is due to the card dimensions that can cause problems to handle pda.
If you do not need the additional memory this one can be a good and smallest solution.
In the meantime there are also not strictly needed accessories on sale. One of this one may be
the Docking Station for O2 XDA mini, T Mobile MDA Compact, i-Mate JAM, Qtek S100/ S110,
Vodafone VPA Compact, Dopod 818/828 - Versione PK 01 by Mobis that you can see HERE
Well, if you wish instead to use your Magician as a modern GPS this Car support with Antenna
receiver and more could be the right solution. You have only to see HERE
And if i wish to add my programs ?
We must go back to the memory matter. We may calculate that the pda (looking at the default value) has 57.41 Mb of
Ram of which 28.71Mb available as operative memory and 28.70MB, plus 7.6Mb of ROM (file store) available to store
users'programs.
It appear to me that the space is like the one available for the old HP h2210 an, if i remember well that device worked fine with
such quantity of memory. I think, as already said, that the problem does not pertain fully to the pda but to the S.O. also
( WM2300 S.E.) that require more resource to work.
Anyway it is now quite easy to install, when possible, the program also on a memory card or in the ROM file storage and
this can be a partial solution if you really wish to load a really big quantity of applications.
HERE you can find a sample posted on the Web representing the above mentioned solution for this device.
I can suggest some other solution to get a good functionality for the Magician without loading an excessive number of programs.
The
following couple of programs
MAIN
- Resco Explorer (it is a good file manager, with many function and with an
registry editor and Ftp addition)
MAIN -Spb GPRS Monitor (an useful way to verify the traffic's volume with a plug-in that shows in the Today screen
the check battery status, to control the backlight and to start PIE and mail in addition to start/stop the concession
GPRS).
Well, these two programs have to be installed in main memory but they offer so many utilities that it is agood way to use
main memory.
If
you like to have Maps available on the Pda/phone it is possible to install
on the Card and to use:
CARD-
TomTom + Maps (good solution if you want to add an antenna BT to use a full
GPS system)
Otherwise
CARD- Pocket City Map (that can offer you a research on many of the principal cities even if without GPS functions)
These are some utilities that may be useful to check or solve memory's problems and others
CARD- MemMaid (it is a memory cleaner that may help you to free memory space and to delete temporary or unused files)
MAIN Cabinstal (indubbiamente utile per redirigere le installazioni CAB su schede di memoria sempre allo scopo
di risparmiare spazio). Ultima versione QUICARD- Sprite Backup is an efficient suite (commercial) that offers as primary use the data's backup. Note that
the program can monitorize the ppc battery and start backup accordingly. You can install the application
on the memory card (saving memory) and you can save on the same the file of backup. See HERE also
The program contains 3 application. I suggest to load the Backup application only as the remaining 2
space monitor and others plugin can cause some trouble with other programs.
Do you wish to add Voice Calls or Voice control to your Pda ? MAIN the European importer of the Magician Branded Qtek suggest to use VoiceDialer (commercial program). It is a good
program that works without nationalized versions. I am not sure but i think it needs installation in main memory.
otherwise
CARD- a possibility (always a commercial item) may be Voice Commander 1.5 by Microsoft that you can install on the
storage memory card using a simple trick that you find HERE (fr) along with a test of the program and other info.
If you like to use this program please take also note of THIS litte program that could allow you to expand the
voice command use. You may find further informations HERE also. Attention according the usual disclaimer you
will use these programs and tips at your own risk.
and because authomatic is better..MAIN it is a little commercial program named Phone Schedule that allows to stop and start the device authomatically
at prestablished time (during the night for example) saving battery. Useful....yes but i do this maually from a long
time. May be iam not modern :)
Check the weatherCARD if, travelling, you need to preview the weather, Pocket Weather, may be useful. There is an old Beta free, if you
can find it, that woks well (Vers 0.99.08) but also the last version 1.00.14 at low price works fine from the card
and change the sound CARDRingtoneX is a program that you can use to handle many type of ringtones for your device. You can find more
informations in the author's pages along with a Trial version (unfortunately the program is not freeware)
For a better use of photo camMAINCool Camera this program promises to use the cam of your pda in a better way. Be carefull as i have not tested
it and also i suggest to install it in main memory owing to the missing of a direct trail.
Some suggestion from the Web.
1) If you have some problem to read too small characters on the screen (in which case the htc Magician could not be the best
if you do not want to use the glasses) it is always possible to adjust the dimension of the text on the screen going to
START>IMPOSTAZIONI [SISTEMA]> SCHERMO [CARATTERE]
2) Do you wish to disable the received message shown automatically into a Pop Baloon windows so that can be read by anyone ?
START>IMPOSTAZIONI>SUONI & NOTIFICHE [NOTiFICHE] > EVENTO in the Combo list choice [nuovi messaggi di testo]
A Tap on this last item will show some options. Deselect the option [Mostra messaggio sullo schermo]
3)For the Jam photocam (to avoid snow effect) the following settings are subjested. You must modify the following Key using
a registry editor : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/HTC/Camera/AppDefSettings/General
Setting: Set Contrast - 5, Brightness - 6, Saturation - 3, Hue - 5, Sharpness - 3
4) To have the ClearType working with the rotated screen also Pavel Koza of PdaGold suggest to modify the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\ClearTypeSettings setting the value OffOnRotation = 0.
After a soft reset the new setting becomes stable and ClearType will be active also if you will rotate the screen.
Read original source that show others information about the matter. 5) To maintain active the function ClearType after rotating the screen also Pavel Koza of PdaGold suggests to modifiy the Key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\ClearTypeSettings setting the value OffOnRotation = 0.
After a soft reset this setting become stable and the ClearType is always active even if you rotate the screen.

6) This also is a tip for Jam (i have no information to apply to different branded unit). This tip may be useful but an Hard Reset
is required to apply it. Basically you need to restart totally the O.S. Installation and, after calibration's steps, when the unit
ask for a Tap to start, to block the process executing a soft reset so blocking also the additional programs installation
(so doing you can save 4/10Mb of memory without any problem if you do not use that applications usually)
Anyway, if you like to install one or more of the blocked program you can do it without any trouble following this path :
START > FILE EXPLORER > MY DEVICE > EXTENDED_ROM folder. Here you will find the Cab files of the stopped programs
and you will need a tap only to restore the ones you like. Read carefully HERE(source) before starting and perform a good
backup.
7) If you dont like to use Cabinstal (the program quoted above) to forse a Cab file to install program un a Card instead of Main
memory (which is the default) you can appreciate and use this Tip.
Using a registry editor find the Key /HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Apps/Microsoft Aplication Installer/
and modify the value of fAskDest da 0 a 1. After a Soft Reset you will be able to choice the final destination of the CAB content
without Cabinstall.(here the source)8) In the forum XDA Developers you can find a long 3D concerning Voice Command activation over Bluetooth. Reading the forum's
posts it appear that the matter has been settled even if the solution seems limited to the I-mate Jam only. The matter appears
to be limited to the experts but if it is of your interest you can read the text HERE9)How to connet to a BT network using an i-mate JAM (htc magician)? you can find all details HERE or, if you like, using the link
shown in the above mentioned linked page. Please note that the two methods are different.
10) if you do not longer like the screen shown when you are performing a Reset you can read the instructions posted in the
PocketPcDubai Forum to learn how to change it. It is a pretty but also unuseful operation that, remenber, requires you
to be an experenced user. Pls almost read the Disclaimer
11) If you wish to receive message delivery notification on your JAM without setting it for each message,
TOOLS > OPTIONS > and check Request message delivery notification you can follow the instructions available HERE .
You must be quite expert to use and modify Registry otherwise wait the dowlodable setting file preadvised in the post.
12) Stereo audio over Bluetooth (A2DP) available for HTC Magician without the need to buy a new unit with WM 5.0 .

14) From th Opera site we found that Opera Mini (free browser) runs also on Magician (Qtek S100). See HERE
What i can say is that i tested the istallation and the program and it runs correctly on the Magician as said.
ATT. Manually modifying the key of the registry you may cause problems at your own risk
Consider also that different version of the same device may react in different way.
Do you need some useful
programs (totally FREE) ?
To support, for the various brand of magician, the missing option in File Explorer for the MP3 ringtones.
This patch should fix the problem adding the option in question to the file Explorer. (for English devices
only. Available HERE)
It may happen to not like to receive calls from someone.The Qtek official site suggests to use SmartFilter .
An alternative may be this program Call_SMS_Blocker (Trial available) created by an Italian developer
but unfortunately no longer Free :)
CicleBT - An application to switch on/off the bluetooth connection. This works only on the stack BT Windows
Flight Mode - An application to handle the Radio connection of the device
PPCProfiles-Pro - An application to handle the profiles on PPC Phone Ed. by a plug-in. It allows to change quickly the
profiles and also to activate a modified profile at due time. Program is available Free HEREMagicButton - The Magician also does not really close the running programs but freeze them instead.
If you need a Task manager to solve the problem this freeware item is also quoted in the web as
working fine with the Magician.
AEBplus - A program to map the two programmable buttons of the Magician (but not only) to get up to 15
different programmed buttons. You can find the download link HERESMSBackup - This program FREE should allow you to backup/restore/export any kind of message
TraficBrowser - (Italian users only) Allo the user to get information about trafic problems in Italian highway.
It runs even if installed on memory card to save space.
Qusnetsoft NewsReader 2.2.0.8 This version is the last freeware version. I tested it on my Magician (Qtek S100)
and it appear to run fine even if it has been installed on the SD card.(to save space). Updated
but commercial versions, are also available thru common channels
SMSHide 1.2 With this program, you can hide and unhide all your private messages (SMS, MMS, E-mail,)
You can use password for unhiding messages
raHSMS 0.5 To send SMS on an establisher time even if the device is in standby also (it is a Beta version)
Call Assistant Program assists your while you are busy. It is running on your device and if you activate it, it is
waiting for incoming calls and is then automatically sending an SMS to the caller with a defined text .
There is also a smartfone version both free for personal use.
GSM P3Kit (Radio) 1.1 measure GSM/GRPS radio resource in real time!- freeware
smsOrganizer to do all you like with your sms, encrypt, hide, store etc freeware with some limit
NoteM This utility lets you record voice notes as MP3 instead of the built-in WAV format. You will quickly
understand the advantage this has in terms of memory usage.
Redial to automatically recall the numbers that are often busy and more
and using the Magician MIDlet Manager you may have also running:
miniOpera an useful browser to navigate, available now the version 2.0 in various languages.(Italian included)
GoogleMaps to bring with you any map you need and to find your addresses and destinations
(ATTN: The above mentioned quoted programs have not been commonly tested by the author of the page. If you try them you use the same at your risk)
BUGS Area
This model also, even if we can consider it a winning one, has its bugs, that have been or will be fixed.
The following is a list of some of the possible bugs that have been posted in the web.
1) Low quality of the pictures executed using the integrated Photocam, that has a slow shutter speed also.
2) The Audio section is not really the best (bad audio at high volume). No problem instead for the person called
3) Big BUG. Recording a vocal note directly on an SD card, the unit hangs and after the needed reset all the
data stored in the SD have been totally erased. (source) 4) Have been evidenced problems using 'Pocket Innovation System Monitor v1.3' (source)

Others
miscellaneous informations available?
Basically this HTC model is available in Europe distributed by two main brands.
You can buy the one distributed byI-Mate named JAM or, if you like, the one distributed by the official European HTC representative
(Dangaard) that you find branded Qtek S100. Unfortunately if you do not own both models you could not verify which of the two
distributors will give you the best additional software and the better support (upgrade) as both require to be registered to access and
download items from their sites. As previously said. the model appears to work fine but, obviously it is not impossible to get better
results using patches or better, an updated ROM image that can upgrade the O.S. In this connection this should be the current

ATTENTION-The sexed Pdas are not only a curious new as they appear
to be also a real upgrade of the original Magician of which
they maintain the dimensions and the look with dedicated
colors.
Multimedial Magician - The device already had multimedial abilities. These
accessories will add o will enable to use better the native resources. You can
get the Stereo Cradle or, from March 06 as scheduled to add Video TV receiver.

If you like your Magician but you are missing a Keyboard, here is your Bluetooth mini keyboardWhy? But why i dedicated this page to this model ? Well there is a first simple reply: 'because this is my device and i like it',
(usually it is a valid reason for any Pda owner) but may be another reason also. This is the first (commercialized) Pda to offer
dimensions cellular/smartphone like and at the same time offered to a price that can be considered acceptable.
The features of this models will inspire many other models that will follow, but i think that the Magician will be appreciated for
a long time, particularly if during this time some little bugs will be adjusted and its price reduced.
THE FUTURE 'MAGICIAN' ( HTC Galaxy ?, Wizard ? )
As often happens with all the good models it is quite easy to see , in a short time, rumors for updated version or news about
new models projected to substitute the current unit with better features obviously. HERE you can find the first Rumor, to verify
but moreover justified by the release of the new O.S WM 5.0 and the information that no one of the old HTC devices will be
upgraded to this new system. :-((
In the future of the Magician has been added now also the QTek S110 for which you may see a preview at PocketPCItalia
You can see below one of the future Jam (or other brand) resemble a graphic prevision of mine
created 3 months ago that i can say............................... is quite similar to the real Wizard actually shown.

The MAGICIAN'S corner
To start
When i bought this Pda phone, in order to replace my old mobile phone without needing to use two separate
units, I considered the possibility to write a little review of this device.
Later, thinking about the matter, i considered also that my review could be equal to many others already
available in the web, so to do something i preferred to start this 'container' page where i hope you could find
news, information,ideas, links etc. useful to any user of this phone edition created by HTC.
A Name, many surnames and a guarantee.
The project name remember the mysteries switching the client curiosity. What there is of Magic in this
HTC Magician ? Well may be only the fact to be the first to represent really the convergence Pda/Mobilephone
that is considered the pdas' trend for the future.
HTC created many valid models for various producers showing a good assembling and construction level
that is a guarantee. That the models of Htc are really good it is easy to understand if we consider how many
providers and brands are distributing pdas realized by this firm even if under several names:
QTek S100 I-Mate JAM T-Mobile MDA Compact
O2 XDA Mini Dopod 818 Orange SPV M500
Vodafone VPA compact Krome-Spy
These last 3 items (Vodafone VPA, Orange SPV & Krome Spy) are model of Magician but they show some
differences in the construction of the case, that you can better see HERE for the first two model.
If you consider one of the above mentioned model better than the standard you must remenber also that Orange
is availavle in Netherland and UK only while for the Krome-Spy you can find it in Australia only.
To consider the correct definitions
When the Magician project has been shown for the first time by an Italian site (PocketPC Italia), if i remember
well it was clear that the relative device was something of really different that needed a fully new definition.
There were already the Phone Edition and also the Smartphone.
The first type represented the way of the Pda producers to try to enter into the mobile communication market
while the smartphones represented instead the devices born to increase the mobile phone available services
as you can clearly see looking at several models of various brands (Sony Ericsson, Nokia etc).
The Magician, for the first time, was not identified by only one of these basic definitions containing the
characteristics of both the types.
It was really a Phone Edition but it did not respect the coded dimensions of the common Pdas still including at the
same time a phone section, notwhitstanding the small dimensions, and all this without needing the usual antenna
like the modern mobile phones.
At the same time it has the measures of a simple smartphone and, if you see better, its dimensions are near to
the one of some mobile phones also, (the difference may be about 1 cm or few mm).
The above, obviously does not apply to the unit's weigh where the mobile phone wins.
You can verify what i am saying using the table below.

If we consider the above samples it is easy to understand that an user of a standard palm sized pda,
can no appreciate a so reduced screen's dimension and so to continue to use the big brother of the
Magician (Blue Angel for example even if more expensive).
On the contrary an user of a cellular phone/smartphone/cellular that is looking for an alternative
will be not so sensible to the screen dimensions while will be much impressed by the weight (or price).

On the pda face at the bottom of the screen there are the main and only basic commands of the device
represented by to double buttons and by a four direction touch pad with confirmation button.

The main set of command button, with rear light, is basically dedicated to the phone controls even if
its function may chance to control the photo camera, for example.
It is easy to find the slot SDio/MMC (max extension of memory 2Gb) that, as usual, is located on top of
the device near the carrying lace .
On the other side (at the bottom) we find the USB connection for the power/Synchronization near to the
earphone and to soft reset button .On the rear you can see the lens of the photocam with, at side, a little
mirror . Above these elements there is a little plastic cover that hides an external antenna plug.
But there are also some hidden things
There are hidden things outside and inside. The simple black side that run around the device separating
the two metallic shells (face and rear) appears as created to give better grip to handle the device but
also to hide many of the commands that you can find on the unit's sides where , the only visible command
button is the power on/off (marked with a red icon).
The IRDA SIR door a 115Kb, and in some way the metallic stylus are no so visible at first sight being
well stored into the black top and right side of the unit, and so happens also for the other commands
that you can find on the left side and at the bottom.

Obviously inside the device there are the really hidden items.
The brain of the pda is one Cpu Intel PXA272 at 416Mhz. This is not the top of the megahertz play but,
do not forget that this is a Pocket Phone with multiple connectionGSM 900/1800/1900 MHz, and a speed
that is equally valid for the device's performances as well the battery's autonomy, is the better solution.
Connectivity Bluetooth - Vers.1.2 working up to about 40m. The drivers are the ones marked Windows
(no Widcomm) and they support the following profiles:
