You can read below what i wrote long time ago, when Nokia commercialized the first N770 model. 

Well, i must say that to dedicate a page to a device that, in my honest opinion, is not a Pda (almost in the usual definition) is something quite new.
This page was borne in strength of an hypothesis that can be valid but could be also appear wrong very quickly.
It is really a very simple idea (and i am sure that many other persons could have the same idea).
 
It is now a long time that we speak about the convergence of pda/phone and smartphone, a process that could, at the and, let us consider an HTC 
device the same way we consider a Nokia unit. (For example only) 

In this connection Nokia launch in the market  this 770 that has no phone section (that is what Nokia can do better) and, in addition, does not use 
Symbian  O.S. but a Linux version.  Once time again as i wrote above  :   Why?

May be that Nokia, instead of to create their own pda, prefer to use a transversal strategy ? 
What i means is that Symbian is a good O.S. for mobile phone but could be inadequate to support future developments due to the diffusion of WM 5.0
by Microsoft. As it is Nokia the first producer to support Symbian what could be an alternative in case of problems ?
Well the best choice is Linux ( palm has already applied to use that O.S. even if in different way).
The only thing required is to produce a to distribute a device at low cost (well, less than the top pda prices) using a good screen, all the possible 
connectivity and a reduced dimension, then, thanking the O. S.open source it is possible to let developers free to program what is missing to obtain 
a full pda.  Will it be a winning choice ?  

If at the beginning i thought that this Nokia device could be the way to contrast Microsoft without engaging the Symbian O.S into a direct contest,
(as at that time it could be less performant of the Win equivalent)  i have now to think that the successors of the old 770 maintained their own 
caractheristics and now  are a totally particular gadget.
A gadget that thanks to developers and to the evolution that Nokia performend can now be seen as a proprietary device with own evolution way..

THE MISTERIOUS OBJECT

DIMENSIONS, Screen resolution and additional matters:

        

screen dimensions respectively   4.1' - 4.0' - 3.7' - 3.7'

The dimensions (as i already wrote) are not small surely. 
This does not mean that the unit is to big for its use as we may nees such overdimension . 

We have to remeber only to compare it with the biggest pda that are available in the market
to consider it od a correct dimension.
At side you can see some shadows relating to well known pdas to evaluate the difference.
You can note that all  the quoted models use VGA (640x480) and WiFi, BT connection.
This means that using this pdas you can get all the services tha the Nokia 770 offers you
 (and much more also).
Anyway none of the mentioned pdas can offer you the 770 screen's resulotion's and  
dimensions and if we consider that the Nokia include in its measurement the case also,
well, we can say that we can still put the device in our pocket easily.
Furthermore we have to consider a question:: What is it a pda ?
Surely an object that has all the elements (screen, memory, connections etc) that thel Nokia
shows but in addition  offers many other services and functions also.
But if it will be possible, thanks to Linux, to add the missing functions will become this Nokia 
a real pda ?  Beh, we can look for this........

After the release of the last upgrade of the Operating System based on Maemo 2.0

I problemi che potreste incontrare .......

1) To extract the battery 
    The cover of the Nokia 770 battery does not appear to be so strong. 
    Usually there is no reason to remove it several times but remember that under
    battery you can find the identification's data of the device (that you can find also
    in a label on the unit's box). So first i suggest you to copy the data before to 
    install the battery to avoid the need to furtherly remove the cover. 
    Second, if you have difficulties to remove that cover and you are afraid to damage
    the device, use if available an old mouse pad to reduce the possibilities that the
    strenght used could cause problem to the screen or other unit's parts.

2) Navigation's problems..
    The Nokia 770 may have some connession problem but, even if all goes fine, it
    is possible to meet pages that lock or cause the restart of the device.
    One of the cause of such beaviours may be the presence into the page of some
    items that use a Flash version over the   version and, conseguantly, unsupported
    by the Nokia 770. If this is the case, you can use the "menu" hardware button. 
    that is the middle button on the left side. This will show a memory box. Click the
    "settings ..." item and in the following box of tabs search and turn off the plugins.

3) The Nokia's stylus
    Nokia 770 uses a cover to protect the screen but this can prevent you to extract 
    the stylus when the unit is in use. You can find in the Russ Nelson blog a trick to
    apply easily if you are able to perform manually a little adjustment.

It will be this the 770 successor ?   NOKIA 800?
